Michelle Huber Photography International weddings and portraits, Charleston, SC

Kristin and Brian invited me down to their home in Charleston, South Carolina to photograph their engagement session. I was thrilled to fly down there, especially with the cold weather we have here right now. I had never been to South Carolina and had no idea what to expect, but really LOVE to travel and see new things. I studied all of the information I could find online and looked at all of the links that Kristin sent me of all of the amazing locations. The results were phenomenal...keep in mind that this is just a small sample of images. We photographed from 10:00 a.m. until the sun went down around 5:00. That may sound really grueling, but it was truly an adventure-we had SOO much fun. Just for the record, we did stop for lunch (which was also great) I am really going to miss them both and can't wait to photograph their French themed wedding next year! October is always the busiest month of the year for me. It's a popular month for weddings in the Twin Cities, (and St. Cloud, and Rochester) so I am guaranteed to have weddings every Saturday unless I take it off for a family vacation or quick getaway with my hubby ;)Also, there are families and couples wanting photos with all of the fall color. So when I got the call that the twins were home from the hospital I had to make sure I found a way to fit them in to my hectic schedule. Luckily, they were available in the morning, which is the last time of the day my clients typically book sessions or meetings with me. I had a spot open on Thursday morning, so I was able to get them in! Although I am primarily a wedding photographer, I am a people photographer, well, I'm also a pet photographer too. Lets just say I love people, animals, oh and nature & architecture...oh, I almost forgot food & travel. Oh boy, I forgot fish, the ocean, color, texture, the sun. Hmmm...Anyway, I was in heaven photographing these little guys. I could have photographed them all day-well, we kind of did, a little more than half of the day actually. ;) I can't wait to see them again in a couple of months!

I don't usually post engagement sessions because honestly, I just run out of time. I'm not very good at making a long story short, I want to go on and on about the couple and the session..before you know it, I've written a book! I'm trying to get better about making more blog posts without spending too mcuh time, so here's an engagement session that I did on Wednesday. I'll try to keep it brief! One of the things that I really liked about this session was first of all, the awesome couple of course, but I'll get to that part in a minute...I really liked how we did 3 sessions in one for some variety. One of my goals for the engagement session is to really reflect the couple's personality, and photograph them in a way that really does that. So that when they see the images, they say "Wow, these are awesome, these images are soo US!" So after discussing things with them for a while through email, we decided we would start the session at Marcy and Adam's house (which was a house they just bought together) One of the things I noticed was the big t.v. with the fancy speaker system and video game consoles. I saw a blanket and pillows on the couch...so, we did a few fun ones there...

Then we went out to the yard...heavily wooded with beautiful large trees...

We walked down the road from the house a bit for some color...

I LOVE how playful Adam & Marcy are...so much fun to photograph!

This one is my favorite...LOVE it, and it was all them, they just did this and I caught it, before the moment was gone, which it was, in like two seconds.

Then we went to Lake Calhoun, where the couple has spent lots of time there together...

We ended the session at Williams in Uptown, where the couple met...

I had a nice time and look forward to photographing their wedding next year!

I photographed Stacy and Ryan's wedding on Saturday, and in my opinion, I believe Stacy is the happiest bride I have ever seen! She smiled so much, her face must have hurt, and I didn't have to coax her, this was all her. She was so happy during the ceremony, she was sobbing, it was impossible to watch and not get all chocked up myself. Click here to see the slideshow More to come...

Photo I took the morning after we arrived to the island.

I just got home from Sara & David's beautiful wedding at Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville, MN. I found out tonight that Sara and David are going to Provo in the Turks and Caicos for their honeymoon, and staying at the same resort that my husband and I did several years ago when he proposed to me. So neat thinking about it, they are going to have such a relaxing wonderful time!

As I was waiting for Sara and David's images to load, I looked at our photo album from our trip-we were much younger, thinner, and had a lot less gray hair! Here are a few images from our special trip there.
(I wish we had pictures of the actual proposal, but unfortunatly we do not)

Trent chose to take me to the Turks and Caicos to propose to me because he knew I really liked tropical destinations, and wanted to impress me by taking some place I had never been before. The thing is, he could have taken me to the backyard, I still would have said yes, but it sure was an amazing trip!

My hubby-this is before he proposed, he was sooo nervous! :)

Who is lucky enough to have Johnny Holm perform at their wedding reception? Tiffany and Joel-that's who!

Joel is a AA pro hockey player for the Quad City Mallards, and also actively farms with his parents in Crookston. Tiffany is a University of Minnesota, Minneapolis grad, and currently working as a Dental Hygienist. I absolutely LOVE their proposal story-Joel surprised Tiffany... to make a long story short, the proposal took place in the middle of nowhere, in a bean field at 4:00 a.m.!! It was perfect for the unique history of their relationship and strong bond that they share. Tiffany and Joel both have such loving supportive families. There were many moments in which I was fighting tears, one of those moments was when Joel was giving a speech after dinner, and getting all choked up, expressed his appreciation for Tiffany's loyalty to him through out his (self described) "extremely selfish" career path.

Needless to say, the wedding was amazing. Her dress, a design by Martina Lieana, belt-by Enzoani and her beautiful shoes-Kate Spade. Her dress, belt, and the guy's tuxes came from Bridal Accents Couture and decorator Cherie Russel-Crooks did all of the decorating at the reception.

The ceremony was at Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault, and the reception at the Owatonna Country Club.

Just got back from Germany!

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to Germany to see my grandson for his first birthday. This is a photo I took on Monday of my son, his wife, and my one and only beautiful, amazing grandson! This photo was taken just a few blocks away from their apartment.
Such an amazing little town they live in just outside of Frankfurt. They have buildings that were built in the 1500's, and a Roman ruin (wall) that runs along a bike path!

If you are a friend or client you already know this because I talk about them constantly, but My son and his wife moved to Germany about 2 years ago for his job, lucky for him my daughter-in-law speaks fluent German! I miss them all terribly, but am so happy to have been able to spend some time with them.

Germany was so beautiful, and the food...mmm! I am grateful to my son for introducing me to such a wonderful place. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have never bothered to see Europe. We had a connecting flight there and back in Iceland...now my interest has been sparked again! Also-maybe next time we'll have more time and we can visit France and Italy too! :)

Megan and Tony had a beautiful wedding, and really amazing luck with the weather. In between rain storms, we were able to get some fun photos outside. They had some surprise guests at their wedding-There was an awards gala going on right next door, that co-mingled in the foyer of both events. Some of the celebrities in town were Bill Clinton, Miley Cyrus, Garth Brooks, Meat Loaf, Kevin Costner, Whoopi Goldberg, and Gary Busey. Probably one of the things Tony will remember forever is being given marriage advice in the elevator by Gary Busey. No celebrities were harmed (or photographed) in the making of this slideshow! (Sorry to disappoint, but I was asked not to, and I am not TMZ, I respect people's wishes and privacy) One of my favorite moments in the slideshow is when Megan's grandmother sees Megan wearing her old mantilla that she wore when she got married. She didn't know if Megan was going to be able to salvage it because it had become so discolored. Megan was able to have it cleaned so it looked like new. Such a beautiful moment to see-

Michelle Huber Photography-Tiffany & Joel's Engagement session

Tiffany and Joel will be tying the knot on September 3rd of this year. If you're a hockey fan, Joel may look familiar to you. ;) Not being a huge fan of sports, for me, the story about Tiffany and Joel that really impressed me was their engagement story. Joel is also a farmer, and certain times of the year, the only way the couple were able to spend time together was if Tiffany joined Joel in the tractor. Joel played a trick on Tiffany and pretended that the tractor was broken (I almost forgot the most impressive part, this took place at 3:00 a.m.!) He pretended to work on a part, asking Tiffany to help him...surprising her with a ring!

Emily & Kyle's wedding

Emily & Kyle's wedding had a wonderful country theme. Pictures this: lacey crochet table linens, Lemonade in Kerr canning jars, homemade carrot cake wedding cake, cupcakes and floral arrangements in a country golf club lodge, complete with live music, and barbecue pulled pork sandwiches. It couldn't have been done better! Although they had planned for the ceremony to take place outdoors on the beautiful golf course, they didn't let the rain spoil the day for them. They "made their own weather" and moved things inside. With their laid back relaxed attitudes, I know Emily and Kyle will have many happy years ahead of them! This is a photograph I took from the window of our hotel room on the 20th floor overlooking views of the Navy Pier, Millenium Park, Buckingham water fountain, several museums, Lincoln Park, and to the right you would also see Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Wrigley Field
I just returned home from a super fun trip to Chicago. I was just me and my two teenagers. We had so much fun & Chicago is SOOO beautiful, I thought I would share some images. CLICK HERE to view the slideshow I put together. (all images copyright Michelle Huber Photography)
When I was a kid, we used to take family vacations to Florida. We drove there (yes, all the way from Minnesota!) and part of the route included Chicago. My parents didn't like Chicago, so we took a route that diverted from the city, actually took us through some of the dirty ourskirts of downtown. It wasn't until I saw Chicago from an airplane that I decided Chicago was really a place to see. From the airplane (departing from Chicago O'Hare) I saw the Navy Pier with the boats and the ferris wheel, and the teal water of Lake Michigan.

This is a photograph that I took from the John Hancock Observatory, there's more images of the 360 views that I captured in the slideshow link above. These are the actual, natural colors by the way
I started paying more attention to what I heard about Chicago. My cousin and his wife liked going there to shop. My mother in law mentioned Wrigley Field. I'm not a big shopper, and I don't care for sports-allthough when I actually saw Wrigley Field, the architechture is really beautiful (at least from the view from our hotel, and driving by) I started researching Chicago, and read about all of the beautiful architechture, artistic landmarks and museums. One of the things I wanted to see was "The Bean".

Shedd Aquarium was another point of interest to me.

The Jellies exhibit was awesome, this is one of my favorite photos I took, I wish I would have written down the names of the species, they were all so beautiful

This octopus looked angry to me because it was red. I have seen them in person in Cozumel, Mexico, they change color...it's really something to see!

When I told my kids about the opportunity to do something fun together, I asked them for ideas. My son Eric, who is 14, said he wanted to travel by train, I had never been on a train either, so that is what we did, we took a train. It was fun once, I'm glad we did it, but I can't say I would love to do it again. However, I can't wait to go back to Chicago again sometime and bring the whole family! (I think we'll just drive, quicker, easier, and not much more expensive) It's official, I LOVE Chicago!!!

Michelle Huber Photography Megan & Nick's St. Paul Wedding, Reception Stella's Fish Café in Uptown

First and foremost, Megan deserves some kind of an award for the most creative and industrious brides ever-She was her own wedding designer and made thousands of beautiful assorted pinwheels (by hand)for her "old-is-new", old fashioned, eclectic wedding. I could go on and on about how beautiful everything was, both visually and emotionally (lots of tear-jerking moments) but instead I'll just post some photos...

The next coolest thing about Megan & Nick's wedding was how fun Megan's wedding party and family were. Patience and compassion...things that seem so easily overlooked in this day and age, but were plentiful in this bunch, which fostered so much love and admiration. Megan's brother Michael (A.K.A. "Glasses") ;) was super funny, some of the other family members said "He's better than Jim Carrey" I have to say that I agree! :)

Lastly, how unique and absolutely wonderful the whole day was! Everything from Megan's brother doing a reading of "Oh, The Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss, to the guests wearing lobster bibs for the meal (yes, that's right, I said lobster bibs!!!)

Also, Megan is totally stunning...

The thing that stands out the most for me about Annie & Peter's wedding was the wonderful support system they have. You know they will have a successful marriage when you hear both parents of the bride and the parents of the groom acknowledge each other on a job well done with raising such wonderful individuals. I would like to start by saying Lindsey is probably the strongest woman I know. I really admire her determination and perseverance. Lindsey's birth plan was to give birth 100% naturally, and with the support of her loving husband and her doula, that is exactly what she did, and she did it BEAUTIFULLY. She is truly an inspiration with her strength, faith & commitment.
On Thursday at 3:22 a.m. I got the call. I was having a dream that I was pregnant when my phone rang, I knew it was her, so I quickly answered. Lindsey said "It's time." I asked how things were progressing and asked if I should leave right now, or wait a bit. She said things were progressing very quickly, so I should leave right away. She sounded very calm. I didn't want to ruin that by getting too excited (I have that tendency) I brushed my teeth, grabbed my camera bag and went out the door. The clock in my car said 3:33 as I was backing out of my garage.
It was dark outside, but I was able to see about 10 deer in the yard around our driveway. They didn't move, just looked at me. It felt so surreal.
I arrived at the hospital just after Lindsey had settled in to her room. The nurse had not checked her yet, she was visibly working with her contractions, utilizing the support of her doula Dawn and her husband Emil. I took a couple of photographs of the room as it was, with the natural light to reflect how dark it was.
The nurse came in to check Lindsey. She announced that Lindsey was dilated to 7 cm!!! She was ecstatic! All of her hard work at home had paid off. She had been working with the contractions, and her labor had progressed beautifully. Her baby was well on his way!
Lindsey used a relaxation technique called "Hypno Birth". Her doula Dawn is amazing by the way, I would highly recommend her to anyone planning a family. Hypno birth may sound weird, but it really wasn't. Click here for a link to Dawn's website. Dawn had a CD playing that repeated phrases (in a very soothing female voice)that said things like "My body is designed to give birth, and knows exactly what to do" It was really wonderful. Having experienced natural childbirth myself, I can see how helpful this would be for a woman in labor. Having a supportive loving husband like Emil helps too!
Lindsey was amazing, she never lost control once, she stayed calm, and worked with each contraction. She even kept her sense of humor, making jokes in between. Once when she was walking in the hallway to help with the labor, right after a really intense contraction, she even posed silly for me with a leg crossed over as if to say "piece of cake!". I'm not sure but it seemed to me like she transitioned in the hallway because things really changed after her little walk.
Once Lindsey got back into her room, the nurse checked her again, and said she was dilated to 9 cm. Lindsey was also having the urge to push. The doctor was called, scrubs were put on. Lindsey was so amazing as she worked with the contractions and her breathing. You can see in her face that there was pain during the pushing, but she never seemed to lose control and stayed relaxed. At 5:53 her water broke, and at 6:33 a.m little Wesley was born. What an honor it was to be there, and an inspirational event!

Michelle Huber Photography Sue & Keith's Embassy Suites Hotel Bloomington Wedding

Real, genuine, compassionate and loving are some of the words that would be used if I was asked to describe the wonderful wedding that I photographed on Saturday. Sue & Keith were married at the Embassy Suites hotel in Bloomington. In addition to having a great couple to photograph, the location itself was exceptional. The staff did a wonderful job, they were very attentive to everyone's needs, and the food and decor were truly amazing
One thing that Sue and Keith did that I really liked was to include all of the guests by introducing each and every one of them, and not just by name, but by listing off all of the wonderful unique qualities that they especially appreciated about each person there. Obviously that would not be practical for a guest list of 200 or so, but for Sue & Keith's wedding, it was perfect. The conversations that took place were deep, meaningful & intelligent. I had such a wonderful time!
Congratulations again Sue & Keith-I'm so happy for you both! I know you are having an incredible time on your honeymoon in Costa Rica, I can't wait to hear about it!
This quote was in the slideshow at the reception, I really love it, It's a Translation of a verse from the book of Timothy: "True love comes from a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith"
I know I say this a lot, but I just have to say it again: I REALLY love my job!! I am so grateful to have been able to witness & document such pure goodness & love.

I've been trying to update more often before my busy wedding season gets into full swing (just a few short weeks away!) Some of the latest projects include some really adorable brand new baby sessions that I've done lately...you may have noticed several password protected sessions on the clients tab. Well I can show you a few (nameless)images to give you an idea of how much fun I've been having:

I could have spent the whole day holding & admiring this beautiful little guy! Aren't babies such an amazing miracle? Anyone who knows me knows how much photography is such a huge part of who I am. It brings me SO much joy to be invited into people's lives in the way that they have. It has been such an honor, and my life has truly been enhanced by being able to see and document families, from the wedding, to several kids later! I could be having the worst day...show up for a photosession, and it all just melts away! Yesterday was an example of that-I got to see one of my favorite buddies Morgan for her 5 year portrait session. I have been photographing her and her family since her mommy & daddy got married...still working on those images...you can see them later today if you want to check back. :)

Also, recently I met a client for lunch (who I have become very close to) and we talked about (among lots of things) the upcoming birth of her and her husband's second child. I am so looking forward to this event, and am lucky enough to get to photograph the birth for them. If you have not seen birth photography before, you might wonder why someone would want that event photographed. If you are pregnant, or have given birth, and you watch a slideshow, I don't know how you could not want such an amazing event professionally documented. Her are just a few (non-graphic) images:

It has been a fun and busy season full of meetings with lots of new potential wedding clients. I love hearing all of the engagement stories & incredible wedding plans! So many fun and unique weddings to look forward to! It's such an exciting time for couples...it reminds me of when my husband proposed to me,and also our wedding day. :) I think for our anniversary this year, I will post the story & photos-what do you think?

I am almost completely booked up with as many weddings as I can take on for 2011 and am also booking lots of 2012 dates as well. I do have a couple of dates left in June, August, and also a few late fall/winter dates left that I am willing to consider.

Another project I have been working on is completing design spreads for wedding books. I just completed another one today, so I thought I would share it...can't wait to see the actual book when it arrives!
Brianne & Raph had a destination wedding on Madeline Island in late September. My husband Trent and I photographed the wedding together-he comes free with my destination wedding packages ;) We had such a wonderful time...such great family and friends on such a memorable weekend, and the FOOD, they served prime rib that just melted in my mouth! 2010 was a great year! I would like to thank all of my couples for allowing me in to their lives to capture their personal journey from engagement session to wedding day-it has been such an honor getting to know you and so much fun! I thought it would be nice to put together a slideshow highlighting all of the couples I worked with in 2010. It was really tough narrowing it down to just one or two per couple! As I was putting the slideshow together, I really enjoyed going back, reflecting on each engagement session and wedding, and the uniqueness of each couple. I love being able to capture that "uniqueness". You might notice that some of the images have my logo on them, no particular reason, just thought it would be nice to throw in there for a few. :) These images were all taken by me personally, by the way. Interestingly, some of the images were also the favorites of the couple, go figure!

Cori & Jake were married on friday at Afton Alps. They have many fond memories of Afton Alps, and are very "out doorsy" so it made perfect sense for them to get married there, and what an amazing venue for a wedding! It was truly a photographer's dream wedding with all of the nature/country themed decor and beautiful surroundings. To top that, I don't think I know a more loving, faith centered couple. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you just want to see the pictures. :)

Emily is a neighbor of mine from our old neighborhood in Cottage Grove. She and her brother went to junior high, high school, and are friends with my oldest son Andrew. I was thrilled of course when they asked me to photograph their wedding! Actually, I think I told Emily that my feelings would have been hurt if she had not asked me! Emily chose a beautiful wedding theme of ocean sand & sea shells, her colors were sand beige, brown, and a few different pretty shades of turquoise. Emily and Jesse are such a fun couple, Emily is so funny, she just cracks me up! I had so much fun spending the day with her. You may notice a groomsman missing from the group, as one of the bridesmaids walks alone down the aisle. Sadly, Emily's brother passed away a few months before the wedding. A few other items of special meaning include a tiny locket sized frame with a photo of Emily's brother on her bouquet, and a framed photograph that was held in the family portraits. These items of remembrance were such a nice touch to acknowledge the loss of Emily's brother. Congratulations to them again-they had such a beautiful wedding day surrounded by friends and family who love them! I know what a hard time Emily has had with the loss of her brother, it was nice to see her smile, and wonderful to be with them on their special day!

Life is something to be celebrated...I feel very fortunate. I am always aware of things around me...to the point that while I am having a conversation with someone, I will notice an interaction between two other people from across the room. When I was younger, I used to think this was an annoying trait for me to have (because people told me so). People would tell me "You really need to keep your eyes to yourself, it's none of your business". I couldn't help it, I saw (and still do see)so much beauty in things like that-simple things like a an apology followed by a heartfelt hug, or a passionate kiss. Needless to say, now I know that what I have is a gift...and...people tell me so. When I put together slideshows for my clients, I feel overwhelmed by emotion, I even cry happy tears remembering the moments that I captured on camera. I know the story behind the images, you the viewer, may not know the story behind each image, but hopefully you are able to recognize some of the emotion. A photograph is a moment in time captured. I LOVE THIS COUPLE, and I LOVE this location too!!!
Brianne and Raph heard about me from word of mouth, as I am her best friend's photographer. The really cool thing is, I kinda knew Raph a little already before, so when Brianne contacted me about photographing their wedding, I felt pretty special. See, Raph's dad owns the grocery store that I shop at and love so much, that sometimes it just turns my mood around going in there to shop. It's a small grocery store, with lots of interesting local and organic stuff, and everyone there always says hi, plus the meat department is so good, people will travel from miles just for the meat. This is where Raph comes in, see he works in the meat department, and he has been putting up with my questions and special requests since we moved here. Little did I know I would be photographing his wedding! To make things even cooler, they planned the wedding to take place on Madeline Island, a place very special to them, and soo beautiful! I don't think I have seen bluer skies anywhere, and the water is so clear and beautiful, almost like Cozumel, Mexico! I almost forgot to mention, Brianne and Raph have a beautiful and extremely intelligent little girl. She was so fun, even after being woke up from a nap, she was still all smiles! I could go on and on, but I'm sure you want to see the pictures!

Kelly was an absolutely STUNNING bride in her georgeous Maggie Sottereo, gown, probably one of the most beautiful gowns I have seen! Matt and Kelly were married at the beautiful Landmark Center in St. Paul. Although Kelly said it was a challenge to plan her wedding from out of state (they live in Colorado) I think she did a fantastic job, the day went by very smoothly, everyone had a wonderful time, and everything was just beautiful! Where to begin with Sadie & Dan? They are such an awesome couple! Sadie & Dan understand the importance of faith, friends & family. The card that was predominantly on display at the reception read: "With much consideration, we have thought of a special way to say thank you for sharing this memorable day with us. In Lieu of a traditional favor, we have made donations to the American Cancer Society and to the Patrick Lybert K9 fund in honor of you, our guests, and in memory of Sadie's college friend and roommate, Marissa Joyce, who passed away from brain cancer and Dan's army buddy and comrade, Patrick Lybert, who gave his life serving our country in Afghanistan."
It was so inspiring to be with Sadie and Dan on their special day, Trent and I are so grateful for being chosen to be such an important part of it. It was absolutely unforgettable!

I Drove through that crazy wicked storm on Friday for Ali & Zach's engagement session (yes, I am commited to my clients!). When I called Ali on the way, she reassured me it wasn't raining at the gardens. It only rained there for a short time and by the grace of God, once I got there, we were allowed the perfect amount of time to get some great shots before the second round of storms came rolling in. Ali is one of those beautiful women who you would think must be a cover model or something, just breathtakingly beautiful! I can't wait to photograph their wedding in October!

I recently came across a website blog post for an organization called "Faith based business Alliance". When I read this blog posts, I felt inspired. I could relate. I hope you will too:

Every person who has ever become wealthy and successful has become so as a result of holding the ideal of wealth and success in their mind long and hard enough until they draw into their lives the resources they needed to accomplish it. Your outer world reflects what is going on in your inner world. Your outer world is like a television of what is going on. It “tells a vision”. It is what’s going on in your inner world. You will always see your attitude reflected back to you in the faces and behaviors of the people around you. If you have a positive, optimistic up beat attitude, people will respond to you immediately even before you open your mouth in a positive and cheerful way. It is a reflection of you.
In closing, let us reflect, resolve, learn, earn and keep. We are destined to win in all aspects of life because of the choices we make.

This was a photographer's dream wedding-The Royal Resort, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico has got to be one of THE best locations for a destination wedding! All I can say is WOW, simply awesome! To top it off, some of the most awesome people I know were all there to celebrate Aaron & Tracy's wedding. The morning started with drizzling rain. I met with Tracy at the resort's Spa/Salon where the staff took excellent care of Tracy & treated everyone like royalty. We watched as the rain came and went, hoping for the beach wedding that Tracy had planned, but knowing that things may have to be moved inside. Regardless, the excitement built through the day as we went to Tracy's suite for her final touches. Tracy was surprised by a beautiful love letter Aaron left for her that was decorated with rose petals in the shape of a heart. More excitement building...the first site took place in one of the hallways of the resort, which may sound boring, but this is The Royal in Playa Del Carmen! Lots of tears of joy... Next, fun on the beach with the wedding party...we had just a few minutes before we barely escaped a monsoon that came barreling in! They moved things inside for the ceremony. The whole thing was so beautiful & emotional! Aaron & Tracy agreed to doing a "day after session", which was really great that we had that planned, they turned the session into what some might call "Trash the Dress" but was actually a "Wash the Dress" session! Man, that was fun!!! Aaron & Tracy started dating 10 years ago, and are one of the nicest & well deserving couples I know. I had such an amazing time photographing their wedding & so proud to have them as friends. Here is the slideshow- enjoy!

If you’re working around a budget, and want to trim wedding costs, the favors are a great place to start! Whether you want a chic DIY or an indulgent treat, here are a few cost-cutting tips to keep in mind.

From candy to candles and everything in between, favors are almost always cheaper when purchased in bulk.
If it fits your theme, use cheap yet totally chic packaging such as brown paper and twine (for a rustic, country wedding) or clear cellophane bags with tulle.
If you have your heart set on high-end, expensive favors, have them serve double duty by giving one gift per couple instead of individually. Put the couple’s names on each one and place between their plates.
Go DIY-style…you don’t have to be a blossoming Martha Stewart to create darling favors. Round up family and friends for a night of favor-making, you’re budget will thank you!
Get creative with fun $1 favors such as lotto tickets, flower seeds, shot glasses, holiday ornaments, magnets and bottle openers.

Tara and Jason were married on what (I believe to be) the most beautiful location on the planet: Kauai, Hawaii. Kauai is known as the "garden Island", for good reason, the island is covered with beautiful tropical plants and flowers. Also, the Na Pali coastline and Waimea Canyon are two amazing must see places on the island. Tara and Jason were so blessed with many friends and family members who flew in from all over the country to see them exchange vows and tie the knot. Jill and Noah are probably one of the sweetest couples anyone could ever meet, and I had the amazing pleasure of being chosen to photograph their Lake Minnetonka wedding. Jill and Noah both have beautiful, amazing, supportive families, and it was such an honor to be part of such an important day for them. Jill and Noah live in Texas, but have so much family in Minnesota, where Jill is from, that they decided to get married here. When Jill first called me on the phone to ask me to photograph her wedding, I felt so much warmth from her, I felt as if we could have been old friends reconnecting. As I got to know her better, the feeling continued. Spring came along, Jill and Noah flew up to visit family and have the engagement session with me. Meeting her in person, the warmth of Jill's personality was compounded by the beautiful love of her best friend, and love of her life; Noah. I could not wait to document this love between two wonderful people, and the beginning of the rest of their lives together! Jill and Noah together exude true agape love, happiness, and passion. My Clients

I have been wanting to blog about this for a while now, but have been just so busy. The other day I received a card in the mail from a couple; Nicholas and Kelly (whose wedding I recently photographed). I thought it was especially nice that they took the time to buy a card and send it in regular snail mail. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE getting emails and face book messages, but it's hard to show these to new potential clients. I always wonder if new clients who don't know me yet think that the reviews about me are real. Well, they are real, and that's one thing that I love about getting cards, I can photograph it, and also physically show it to people, they don't have to wonder if it was something that I fabricated myself. Most of my clients are word of mouth. They had a friend or family member who had me photograph their wedding. Anyway, to make a long story short (maybe it's too late!) my husband always says he really envies how much happiness I am able to bring to people, but the truth is, my clients bring ME happiness. SO much happiness!! Sometimes I feel like I am on top of the world they bring me so much joy! I mean, how cool is it to have a bride schedule her wedding around MY availability, or to have someone trust me enough to ask me to photograph the birth of their first child? Or how about being flown to Mexico or Hawaii to photograph a wedding? So, thank you to all of my clients, I hope you know how much happiness you bring me, and I know, that you know how much I care about each and every one of you! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Welcome Mason!

Last night I experienced what is possibly the most amazing event in a person's life. I had the honor of being chosen to document the amazing birth of baby Mason. He was born at 10:49 p.m. Saturday evening. Mason's mommy was so strong; the delivery was completely natural, with almost no interventions from any health professionals. Being an observer of the whole thing was so inspiring. Lindsey took on each contraction with the strength of a team of oxen; she stayed in control and worked with each contraction. Even when it was discovered that Mason was "sunny side up", Mommy refused to give up or give in, she was able to push him out, even after being in transition stage for hours, and having no sleep for over 24 hours. On Saturday I had the honor of photographing Kelly & Nick's reaffirmation of marriage at Prospect Park United Methodist church and reception at International Market Square in Minneapolis. Kelly and her bridesmaids started the day with the ultimate spa experience. They all received the full treatment, including one of my personal favorites-a full pedicure with an essential oil massage. You may recognize one of the bride's maids; Sarah, I photographed her wedding in February. Yesterday I had the amazing opportunity to photograph some beautiful wedding gowns worn by beautiful models for a fashion shoot. It was so much fun, and one of the coolest parts- one of the gowns was worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the movie "Sex in the City"!! Yesterday I met Valerie & Jeff in Stillwater, where they got engaged. It was such a beautiful day-the sky was blue, the clouds were fluffy, it was nice & warm.

Jeff & Valerie have a beautiful engagement story: Jeff took Valerie to the Ann Bean Mansion that weekend. They ate at (one of our favorite restaurants) Marx Wine Bar for dinner, went shopping on Main Street at the kitchen shop, candy shop, had coffee at the place behind Marx then went wine tasting at Northern Vineyards. To top things off, later that evening Jeff proposed to Valerie back at the mansion in front of the fireplace. Doesn’t it sound perfect?

Last night I met Jill & Noah for the first time in person-and I must say, Jill is as beautiful in person as she is one the phone! I feel very lucky to be the one they chose to photograph their wedding, because they are such an awesome couple! Jill & Noah live in Texas, but are getting married in Minnesota. Of course on the one weekend that they come, even though it's May, it happens to get frigid cold! O.K., Maybe it wasn't THAT bad...but I felt so bad for them! Jill was such a trooper even with the cold, and I am so glad, because the images from the session are HOT!!! Trash the dress in Stillwater Caves!

Recently I was invited to a group photography TTD. I love photographing with other photographers-I always learn new things. These images were taken in Stillwater, MN. Some of them were taken by the river, and some in the caves at Luna Rossa, an amazing wine bar/restaurant. The manager was kind enough to let us have free reign of the caves for our photoshoot. Destination wedding in Hawaii

I have just been asked to photograph a wedding in Kauai, Hawaii! I am so excited!!! We will be staying on one of the top ten beaches in the world, and THE best beach in America-Poipu Beach. I will be capturing some of the most amazing views, I am so stoked, I will post updates as I learn more of the details! One of the coolest parts-is that the wedding date is just two days away from my birthday! What an awesome birthday gift eh? My face hurts from smiling I am so excited!!

Sarah & Joe's Wedding in Woodbury, MN

Last night I called Trent to let him know that I was on my way home from the wedding, and to tell him how EXTREMELY stoked I was. There were so many things I wanted to share with him. First of all, Sarah is the nicest, sweetest young woman I think I have ever met, and Joe is equally sweet-it's so amazing that they found each other. They actually met in high school, and dated for 7 years. The pastor talked about how sweet Sarah is, always has been, and how thrilled he was to officiate their wedding, he described them as the nicest, sweetest couple-see-it's not just me! He also said that he knew that they would have a strong marriage, because of their faith. He said that he knows from experience, his own, and from witnessing others, that with God in your life, you can accomplish anything. He also told a story about a couple that was having a rough time...to make a long story short-the wife started packing her bags to leave the husband, the husband started packing his bags too. The wife asked "What are you doing?" The husband said "If you're leaving, I am coming with you". That is the kind of commitment that makes for a successful marriage. I can never tell a story as well as the original, so I hope it makes sense.

Before I left for the evening, I asked Sarah if there was anything else she would like me to stay for to cover, she said "Oh my gosh Michelle! You are so kind, you have already far exceeded our expectations!" She said that she heard so many positive comments about me throughout the day and that she was so excited to see the pictures.

That was the perfect ending of a perfect evening for me.

Anyway, these two were such a joy to work with, I could babble on and on, but I am sure you really want to see some pictures. For now, I am only posting one. It is one of the first images that I took of Sarah...she is so beautiful-on the inside and on the outside. I will post more as I finish editing them all.

Winter Wonderland!

Wow, the snow is here, and it is beautiful! I took my daughter Christmas shopping the other day, and noticed something... I pointed out to my daughter "Don't all of these photographs in the stores of the models look like they were taken at our house?" she said, "Whoa...yeah, you're right, they do!" We both felt pretty lucky to be able to live in a real-life scene from an American Eagle store ad. This morning when we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, I could not resist posting some images of our view. I would love to take some portraits with these beautiful, natural backdrops...I can't wait for my next outdoor photoshoot! I might even take some photos to have a studio backdrop made of this georgeous snow scene...

I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of my WONDERFUL clients for being so patient & supportive through our big move. It was a lot of work, but we are finally moved into the new house/studio-AND as of about 5:00 a.m. this morning, I finally have internet again! So I am 100% back in business! Thank you to all of my clients who have been so great to me-I feel like the luckiest photographer on the planet! I can't wait to have my open house and invite everyone out here to see the new studio!

Allison & Austin at Falconer Vineyard

I don't know how I was so lucky to have been chosen to photograph Allison Falconer's wedding, but thank you God! What an amazing, wonderful family, and what an incredibly beautiful wedding! It was difficult to decide which few images to post...there were so many wonderful moments captured! So, I have posted the image that I just lost it & cried...the moment in which Allison first appeared with her dad. It's a good thing my camera hides my face, because tears were rolling! I also posted a few nice detail shots. I will post more as I complete all of my enhancements and edits on the images. My assistant Tom took the top image-what an awesome shot-thank you Tom! Seminar-Garrett Nudd

I have been so busy, I have not had time to make this post until now, but right before Trent and I took our trip to Cozumel, I attended one of the best photography seminars that I have ever had the opportunity to experience. It was hosted by Graphi Studio, my book company, and featured Garrett Nudd, one of the country's best wedding photographers. I have been a HUGE fan of Garrett and Joy Nudd since I first heard of them in 2006. They have been featured in numerous magazines, including Professional Photography magazine. Yes, Garrett briefly talked about how wonderful Graphi Studio books are, (all of the industry's leaders use Graphi) but he also shared all of his experiences from the time he started photographing weddings many years ago, up until the present, with the opening of thier new studio. His presentation was very inspiring, and I feel very lucky to have been able to attend this amazing seminar, as it booked up within minutes of the email being sent out announcing it.

My husband thinks I am a super hero!

I know that a lot of my clients really enjoy looking at the photo sessions that I have done, of course the ones that I have done of them, but also the ones that I have done of people that they may not know. It's really fun to get ideas & see what other people have had me do for them. I know that some of the images can be very moving & emotional. You may have noticed that some of my sessions are password protected, so you are unable to view them. My clients have that option available to them. Some of my clients require privacy for different reasons. I always respect the privacy of my clients. I am not interested in personal gain by bragging about who I have had the opportunity to photograph. That is just who I am. There is also another type of "private" session, that you will never see listed anywhere on the site. You may hear me mention that I "Had a session this morning." and never see it listed on the clients tab of the website. Even my mom has asked me-"Where is the session that you said you had this morning?" She loves to look at my images too. ;) These special sessions are work that I do for an organization called NILMDTS. There is a link on this site, if you are interested in learning more about it. My husbands thinks that I am like a super hero because I do these private sessions. I really do not feel that way about it. I just think that if everyone gave just a little bit of themselves...can you imagine what that could accomplish? This work that I do is something that I feel very passionate about. Photography is a gift, I feel that it is my responsibility to share it. I know that I am not perfect, and that I am definitely NOT a super hero-but I do try to be the best person that I can be, and giving to the community is a part of that. I hope this all makes sense-I am always better at pictures than words.

Elizabeth & Jesse

Elizabeth & Jesse were married on Saturday at the Chalet in Maple Grove. I should also let you know that Jesse & Elizabeth requested a slightly more "edgy" or "modern" look to thier photographs (which I love!) I started out bright and early in the morning at Elizabeth's mom's house, where Elizabeth was getting ready. Lucky for her, her best friend is a hair stylist and agreed to come to her :) In the meantime, one of my assistants; Tom, photographed Jesse getting ready. Outdoor weddings are beautiful. It was a very windy day, which made for some interesting outdoor photography. It added an interesting energy to some of the images that I ended up really loving, in fact, some of the images that the wind was really blowing hard, ended up being some of my favorites! Ashley & Pete's Wedding

Ashley & Pete were married on October 5th in Saint Paul at the beautiful Fort Snelling Chapel, with the reception at breathtakingly beautiful & elegant Semple Mansion in Minneapolis. Ashley has an incredible talent, as she made all of the decorations herself-and did a fabulous job! Ashley, Pete, and both families were so nice, I felt almost like a part of the family they made me feel so welcome. Trash the Dress Minnesota style!

Laura was such a good sport to agree to her 6:00 a.m. photoshoot in the swamp. The frogs and the ducks however, were not so happy with the disruption in thier morning! We went along anyway to persue Laura's quest to trash her dress-it all paid off because these images are incredible! The park ranger stopped by and ask us if we were doing one of those "trash your dress sessions" that he had heard about on t.v.. He was impressed to see that Laura was not afraid of the muck, and jumped right in. (I was too)

Lis & Rob's Wedding

My husband and I went to Settler's Bay for the weekend, which is located near Milwakee, Wisconsin to photograph the wedding of Lis & Rob. Lis read about me online, and after getting to know me a little bit, and seeing my work, she decided that I was the one who she had to have as her wedding photographer. I was very flattered that she chose me that way, and that she went out of her way to get me there, so that I could be there to photograph her wedding. My husband Trent comes with me for all "destination" type weddings, in which I am required to travel and spend the weekend on location. He and I loved the up north woods feel, and the beautiful historical buildings in town. Lis and Rob had the whole thing decorated with a north woods theme-it was perfect! Down to every little detail-Trent and I agreed that if he and I were to do it all over again, this would be the way we would do it! Lis and Rob love the outdoors just like we do.
